Diba Rug camel palmette main borderA 1940s Tekke Turkmen carpet from north Afghanistan. The characteristic gul and ari gul motifs are rendered in dark blue, brown and natural on a soft, pale red ground that has faded from the original darker red as can be seen on the verso. The colours are quite sensitive to light conditions. Try as we might, the central section shows as pink in the photos but in real life is more of a red brown.
