Many layers of dye are applied before each level of drawing is done creating a different outline for each of the flower and leaf colors

the area outside of the irises is painted with a very light yellow dye and then several layers of light blue dye is applied

The irises are then drawn freehand using a water based wax resist to create the design

The silk starts out without any color or design. Visualizing the beauty of the Rappahannock River, I begin to paint the beautiful flow of the river.
