Using a group-based trajectory modeling analysis, we divided the study population into 6 smoking trajectory groups: never smokers, former smokers, new current smokers (those who were never smokers at baseline but started smoking later), decreasing light smokers (those who were light smokers but tend to decrease or quit smoking), steady moderate smokers (those who were moderate smokers and did not much change their smoking behavior), and steady heavy smokers (those who were heavy smokers and did not change much their smoking behavior)
